Translated UK-messages

ViestiKirjoittaja Midnightsun » 13 Elo 2007 00:36

I hope it is possible to ask you Finns to translate some of the messages the UK-members are posting in the finnish band-section, please?
This would be sooo nice!   :-*

Maybe someone can help with the translation of the message Antti wrote today? Thank you!  :)

A good topic!

Well, someone (probably a troll) posted a rumour that's been going around some Finnish sites and according to that rumour somebody who knows somebody, who knows somebody, who knows a friend of the band... you can figure it out... alledgely "knows" that one of the band members would have attempted to commit a suicide a couple of days ago.

Here's Antti's reply freely translated:

Well,
As you probably guess, this thing isn't sensible nor is it true.
UNLESS YOU HAVE LEGITIMATE INFORMATION ON SUCH A THING THEN PEOPLE PLEASE DON'T POST SUCH RUMOURS HERE. HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT THE FACT, THAT THE BAND'S CLOSE ONES ARE ALSO FOLLOWING THIS FORUM... HOPEFULLY THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY MISUNDERSTANDINGS YET!
Please be sensible, people. If something bad would happen to any of the band members, we'd surely post an official statement to our homepage, because it would influence the gigs, the promotion and all sorts of stuff.

The mods can remove this topic...

Hopefully everyone here understands Antti's message; a further speculation on this rumour is not needed in Finnish topics, nor here.

I think that it isn't necessary that I translate whole message, but main thing is that someone claim that one of the band members tried to do suicide and we other fans tried to say that it can't be true and fortunately Antti came to the forum today and said that it is BULLSHIT, so NO ONE TRIED TO DO SUICIDE IT IS ONLY SOMEONES IMAGINATION.

//damn, Ng already post an explanation. :D

Antti started a new topic where the band (and the band only) can write their comments on past gigs. He started by commenting on the gig they played in Vantaa. As some of you were there, I guess this translation is needed.  ;)

"Vantaa, Tulisuudelma, 8.8.2007

The band was eagerly waiting for this gig because we really wanted to play a good gig after that fiasco in Hämeenkyrö. When we reached the venue we were quite tired as the video shoot for Luotisade had taken nearly 18 hours - and add to that all the travelling. Still, it was nice to finally get to play a gig in a bar with our own P.A. equipment and after a proper soundcheck so we were in a good mood before the gig.

The gig turned out to be great. The technical things worked well [he thanks the crew], the band worked well and the audience worked well... and that can only lead to a very good atmosphere. There were some refreshing changes in the setlist and the gig went smoothly. We were feeling great also after the gig.

Later, we celebrated Matti "the booking agent"'s wife's birthday but after two busy days we were so tired that I was soon pretty exhausted.

But anyways, the gig was a success!

Antti's comments on recent gigs

NRJ-in the park 18.8.2007

It was a short gig so there's not so much to comment on. I had a bad flu and it was quite hard to spend the whole day waiting when feeling bad so I was quite tired. The gig went relatively well and there were no real misfortunes but somehow the whole event feels like a bore. Still, it was quite OK.

LUX julkkarit 22.8.2007

When I heard for the first time that the release gig will take place in some new nightclub of "Sedu" [a guy who owns a horde of more or less trendy clubs around Finland] I was quite surprised. Mr Seppo Koskinen's restaurants are...well, what they are and they're not by any means designed for gigs. So, I didn't quite know what to expect.

When we arrived to LUX I saw that it was every bit as horrible as I had expected it to be. There was floor space next to and behind the stage but still all the loudspeakers were directed towards the front of the stage. Well, the backstage made us feel a bit better as it was really spacious and there was a balcony and stuff.

As for the gig, I was quite tense because this was the first time when we played those new songs live. Moreover, we knew that there would be "loyal LUX customers" and the acoustics were not as good as they should be. Still, the gig went well and so did the new songs so the benefits of rehearsal sessions were obvious. We loved playing those new songs and I feel that the gig was over right after it started. Jussi performed very well despite of his flu. The only annoying thing was that there were lots of people standing on the side of the stage watching the gig. I felt like telling them that "the music would sound better to you if you stood in front of the stage". Even though we didn't like the place the gig was fantastic and we're really looking forward to getting to "real" venues to play these new songs.

We were happy after to gig so we continued the evening by celebrating with our friends and business partners. As the place was like that we didn't spend too much time in the actual bar but it was great fun anyways. Thanks to "Our guys" and others, who were there.

Well, yes and no. Of course the sound is meant to sound best in front of the stage, and that's where the audience is supposed to be normally. But in that place the sound was quite strange anyway, it was actually very loud at the front and there wasn't really much space either, since there were only handful of rows until the dance floor started, which was a bit lower to front of stage area. When the gig started I was at the front but soon moved to the side, cos it was too loud and I didn't fancy people pouring drinks all over my back either. Standing on the side was a bit of a different thing to normal, but I quite liked being able to see the whole thing from a different perspective. And I at least had space to breathe there and it even felt better for my ears actually, cos it wasn't so loud there. Plus it was nice being able to get a good view on the drummer for a change.  ;)
Sorry tho, if it was disturbing for the band to have people standing there.

Antti's comments on yesterday's acoustic gig at NRJ studios.

"NRJ Acoustic live 29.8.2007

I was eagerly waiting for this gig because it's been a long time since we've played an acoustic gig with the whole band on stage. We even had a nice (though too short) rehearsal session so our only worry was our vocalist's voice, which was somewhat strained by the flu.

Still, we found out that we needed not to worry about his voice. He sang very well and also the rest of the band performed quite well, too. The atmosphere there was somehow very cosy and relaxed... it was a bit like playing in our rehearsal place. We were just enjoying the songs and laughing at each other's little mistakes.

Despite of inadequate amount of rehearsals the songs streamed on painlessly and in many cases even with a nice swing and good feeling. As for me, the most memorable song of our set was "Aurinkoni" because this was the first time we played it live and it worked fantastically well. Another great moment was "Kiveen". I couldn't have believed that such a song would sound so good as an acoustic version. "KMMA" was a positive surprise for the same reason as "Kiveen".

So, we had a great time and we came up with the idea of doing more this kind of shows. Of course with more effort on rehearsing and arrangements. Maybe then I would get a better idea of the strange world of playing cahon. It's funny how interesting sounds you can create with such a wooden box. This gig was still "I'm just banging" one but it was a good start. Anyways, cajon can wait for some time as my fingers are hurting. Ouch!

Hopefully we'll have a chance to play more gigs like this because the whole band liked this one a lot.

Antti"

yeah, me too. I love unplugged music, every band should do some "MTV Unplugged" concert.  ;D *goes send Uniklubi to MTV* Nah don't, but acoustic shows would be great nevertheless :)

oh by the way thanks for the heart attack, reading was a bit like: *quotes*so our only worry was our vocalist's voice*/quotes*  *insert heart attack here* *quotes*which was somewhat strained by the flu*/quotes* *heart goes normal again* ....Heaven...

Antti's cruise comments:

"I'll collect here some feelings from the last weekend's cruise gigs!

Like Jussi already commented in the diary, those cruise gigs always raise some incertain feelings. And it was a mess... starting right from the arrival and entering the ship. We were in a huge hurry [the ship arrived in Turku harbour nearly half an hour behind the schedule but the gig had to take place according the schedule, at midnight, sharp, -Ng], there were lots of unclear things and worst of all, nobody's keycards functioned, so we ended up running with our luggage back and forth from our cabin doors to the information desk.... and the showtime was coming close. Because of that we felt quite nervous before Thursday's gig as we didn't have any time at all to calm down and prepare ourselves for the night's gig. Already on our way to Turku we had decided to play a longer gig than by this far and due to the long setlist at least "truly yours" managed to get into a good mood during the gig. Jussi Ojanen's visit on stage [he took over Janne's guitar for Totuus -Ng] during the latter half of the gig relaxed the atmosphere which was just what we needed.

The following night was completely different... maybe we were a bit too relaxed but on the other hand, we had a great time improvising and just enjoying playing together. I can't remember that we'd ever had so much fun as during that Friday gig. The setlist was even longer than on Thursday, I think that the band enjoyed the gig to the fullest and those little mistakes and goofs just triggered shrugs and heartfelt laughs. So, technically the gig wasn't maybe as good as that of Thursday but it was great fun. Thanks to audience and the hang-arounds. It was funny cruise, all the way.

But it wasn't too much fun on Saturday as we had the wake-up call early in the morning and from the harbour the poor musicians were taken by taxi to Arlanda airport to wait for the plane to Vaasa and to travel from there to Alahärmä. I'll write about that journey later on.

-Antti"

;D you could tell that SO much from the pictures that were posted so far. it's great to read that the concert was a more of a "heartfelt" thing than a "technical one", so that little technical things don't matter at all as long as everyone has fun ;D

kiitos käännöksistä ^^

Check the topic Keikat-> Keikkojen biisilistat.
They played 16 songs on Thursday and 17 (+ couple of cover song excerpts) on Friday.  :)

...so it was about 1h 20 minutes on Thursday and 1h 30min on Friday.

Antti's message:

"Alahärmä Power Park 22.9.2007

After all that ship/taxi/plane/kleinbus traveling we were a group of nearly dead musicians, when arriving at the venue. Our only way to survive was to go to the hotel and straight to bed. Then we had a soundcheck and then back to bed. Then dinner and back to bed. Fortunately around midnight the band started to look distantly human, which I noticed when going to the backstage with the bass artist and it was nice to see that there were lots of audience. Our gig started only at 01:15 at night so you can probably estimate what was the audience's condition at that time... Well, it didn't affect us. Because of lack of time we dropped off a couple of songs but otherwise the setlist was pretty much the same as on those cruises.

For some reason I don't have too many comments on the gig itself but the gig was quite nice and we played well. When the end of the gig was getting near I started to feel that "those people won't raise their hands up even if we robbed them" but as I said: it was late, they had seen lots of bands... and they had had in average, say, 30 beers so that explains why the audience was tired. Well, there were some tough cookies there jumping and raising their fists. After the gig we went almost directly to bed and in the morning the bus took us home. What a weekend!

Help needed with the last message from Antti!  :)

Lahti, Diva 3.10.2007

No... ettei olis liian hianoo päässy oleen ni poikain kans ku poikettiin läheisessä Londonpubissa keikan jälkeen, nii joku idiootti pölli mun takin narikasta... VOI VIT... HARMI!!!!
Saatiinhan se ilta pilalle...

Helsinki, Rosella-paatti 6.10.2007

Kun oli menny noin hyvällä mielellä toi aikasempi ilta, niin olikin tosi kiva odotella koko päivä Helsingissä iltaa (ilman takkia) et pääsis laivaan. Onneksi hyvä ystävä tarjosi väsyneelle takittomalle rokkarille sateen suojaa, jotta sai päivän ees jotenkin kulumaan (olen tästä ikuisesti kiitollinen). Muu porukka viettikin aikaansa virkistäytyen parhaaksi katsomallaan tavalla, paitsi tietysti ikiahkera tekniikkaryhmämme, joka nousi laivaan jo puoliltapäivin aikaisemmalle reisulle kasaan P.A.-laitteita valmiiksi.
Kaikin puolin positiivinen keikka omastapuolestani ainakin... Kivaa oli!
Kiitos mukana olleille ja kiitos myös Picnic:n pojjiille, vaikka hipatukset aikas vaisux jäiki ku väsy yllätti!!

Katsotaan mitenkä nää tästä jatkuu!!

Lahti, Diva 3.10.2007

Special place + not so much people = special gig!!
Restless talking, reckless(?) laughing, weird "doings" (couldn't translate really)
but anyway good playing (of instruments) and it felt that the people who were there enjoyed it.
I can't come up with anything else to say.
Oh yeah, and thanks to the lightman Tomppa and his bottle of alcohol for bad feeling in the morning...

Helsinki, KY-Klubi 5.10.2007

Oh Seppo Koskinen... (owner of the club)

The place was quite horrible. At least they had a stage but it was quite weird one and there was no backstage. Luckily the boys from our road crew gave us a small piece of the stage separated by a curtain so we had at least some sort of place where to prepare for the gig in peace. Of course the music was playing there as loud as on the bar's side. So we went to play in quite restless feelings. The gig went pretty well. I had the "basic gig" -feeling but some of us had really good mood after it. Our mixer Esa didn't give much points to the gig and he was on a bad mood... personally I have no idea how the concert sounded for the audience! The drunken student group was sort of funny audience and at least it was different than the "normal people" in these clubs (owned by Sedu Koskinen). Well, just to make it little bit less perfect night someone stole my jacket when we were at the London pub after the gig... OH FU... DAMN!!!
The night was finally ruined.

Helsinki, Rosella-boat 6.10.2007

After that good mood on the earlier night it was really nice to spend the whole day in Helsinki, waiting for the night (without a jacket) to get to the boat. Luckily a good friend offered the tired, jacketless rocker some shelter from the rain so that I got through the day somehow (I'm eternally grateful of this). The rest of our group spent their time refreshing themselves, except our always so active technical group, who got on to the boat already earlier to put up the PA systems. When we got to the boat it was already time to check the sound pressure and after that the well-refreshed band took a nap and then the gig started. Despite the feelings before, the gig was a good one! The stage was really small and most of the audience probably didn't see a lot of the band but the feeling was good and the people participated nicely. I can't tell much about the amount of people in the concert because I could only see the front row, but it seemed that everyone had a good time. I couldn't stop laughing when Jussi put some weird furry hat on Pasi's head in the middle of some song... I almost fell down from my chair when I saw Pasi's face. Another hysteria hit me a moment later when Jussi was enjoying the gig with his hands up and Pasi had a revenge by doing a "radio punishment" and made Jussi scream with full power...

All in all, it was a positive gig, at least for me... Lot's of fun!
Thanks for those who were there and also thanks to the boys from Picnic, even though the party was quite lame because of tiredness!

We will see how it continues from here!!

Lohja, Lohi 12.10.2007 ja
Pori, Karhuhalli (Eppujen lämppäys) 13.10.2007

Jaahas...

Pori, Karhuhalli (supporting act for Eppu Normaali) 13.10.2007

Well... I don't have anything special to say about the gig at Lohi, Lohja. It was a "basic" gig. There were lots of people, they obviously enjoyed the gig and the band had a good time. The stage wasn't too good and as a consequence we didn't hear each other too well. During Luotisade Jussi sent an umbrella into the audience...that was somewhing new. But really, there's nothing interesting to write about.

To support Eppu Normaali... whoa... we all had been looking forward to this. They could be compared to some big American name. It was nice to be there and to see how the things go in "the big world". They had a crew of about "a million" people and lots of stuff with them. They had all the lights, screens and systems and even their own chef to take care of their catering. We felt that our band is more like "a hobby" when we made some comparisons to that group. The best thing was that everything worked perfectly and we were treated very well, too!! It was great! I think that we played our part of the evening with style but still with a suitably humble attitude. By the time we started, a nice amount of audience had arrived to see us and they even stayed there, listening patiently. In brief, it was a fine gig because of the technical things, the crew and the audience. After the gig we stayed to see Eppu Normaali's gig. At first we thought that we've seen and heard them far too many times but surprisingly, when they started playing, all of us (except for Jussi, who isn't too fond of Eppu Normaali) were there enjoying the gig and singing along. I must admit that there's a certain difference in the sound of rock'n'roll when the guys have played it for 30 years!! Respect! Huge thanks for the chance of being the supporting act and for their great gig as well!!

Nice review... ;) Anyway it's strange how things can change if you are not living in a certain country... :-/for me Uniklubi are more and more famous than Eppu Normaali (the truth is that i don't know them! :-[)!!! :D :D
I guess they could be a sort of national glory?? :-/
Thanks for translation! ;)

one suggestion - what about keep here ONLY the translated messages and all the comments and thanks write somewhere else? (for example the chat-topic)
Who will ever know, who will ever care
if those are memories or just dreams I bear.
I've lost my way to go, I've lost my sanity.
Will you ever find and bring them back to me?

well that's the usual plan! I just thing it's getting really confused if we talk about such translations and something like within no real context... I mean, the chat-topic is for everything, for chatting, off topic, that is. We'd keep jumping between on- and offtopic.. don't know. ...Let's just have a discussion-topic over here too, to discuss interviews and translation, and keep the offtopic one for everything beside the band?

edit:
oho... i'll just open a thread, otherwise we'll be discussing the 'what are we going to do?' in here, and that really doesn't make this topic clearer.

Antti's recent post:

"Hi! How about writing some comments here this time...

Nivala, Puustelli 10.11. 2007

If we don't count in the small stage this is a quite nice venue and this was at least our third (?) gig in this bar. It seemed like there had been less people here than in usual but maybe it's just the time that has brightened the memories... Anyways, it was a good gig and those who had dragged themselves to the bar surely were happy about their investment. The low frequency artist complained about feeling weak because of the previous night's opening of a new Dog's Home bar but that didn't seem to prevent him from dancing around the stage. Even the gig mogul Tinkkinen respected the gig with his presence (and kisses) so it was a very nice night. We briefly visited the bar but then we had to run to the bus and started the drive to Turku, some of us sleeping, some of us staying awake.

Turku, Silja Europa 11.11.2007

A nice ship, lots of familiar people and lots of good bands. Nothing negative to say...except for the starting time of the gig... 02:00!!! Well, it turned out that the showtime was just fine even if that meant more than enough of waiting. We went to sauna with Apulanta guys, ate and spent time with YleX people... and it still felt that it would be forever until the gig. The showtime finally arrived and the gig began almost in schedule. Both the band and the audience obviously enjoyed the gig (which is quite surprising when you think about the showtime) and for me at least, the gig was a wonderful experience.
Timo from Elastinen's group came on to stage to make the audience cheer and he also sang there (huge thanks!) After the gig the party time was quite limited but still, it was a nice evening/night. Thanks for everybody who were there and especially for people of Rähinä Records, Apulanta, Lauri Tähkä's people and YleX's gang (perfect arrangements...THANKS!) and to other artists as well. Maybe one of the most enjoyable cruise gigs for a long time. Amazing!

I must also thank Jarkko the photographer, who followed us through the weekend and who managed to get several very good takes from us despite of our extra kilograms!!!! *bows*
